2012 Father's Day 4K and 1 Mile Stand-Up Paddleboard Rez Race Opens Registration

Boulder, CO – April 25, 2012

Come join the fun this Father's Day at the second annual Father’s Day 4K, free Kids Fun Run, and 1-Mile Stand-Up Paddleboard race at the Boulder Reservoir. The 4K, presented by Pearl Izumi, begins at 5:00 p.m. Sunday, June 17th at the Boulder Reservoir, and is a chip-timed, fast & flat out and back race along the south and north dams, finishing alongside the shore of the Reservoir at Pro Hill. The race begins at 5:00 p.m.  A free noncompetitive Kids 1K Fun Run will be held directly after the 4K, open to all children age 12 and under, on the lawn west of Pro Hill. The 1 Mile Stand-Up Paddleboard race, sponsored by Olukai and presented by Rogue, begins at 6:00 p.m. on the beach west of the main Beach House. The event will be limited to first 100 registered participants. Beachside registration will be available beginning at 5:45 p.m. Participants in the SUP will be gun timed.

Race packets and timing chips will not be mailed. All race packets, which include race number, timing chip and Pearl Izumi technical race shirt must be picked up on race day, Sunday, June 17, at Pro Hill at the Boulder Reservoir, beginning at 3:00 p.m.

Cash Prizes and Age-Group Awards
Overall awards will be presented at the race beginning at 7:00 p.m.  Prizes are awarded at the race at the Boulder Running Company awards tent.

Please note: Father/Son and Father/Daughter teams must register in-store only; team registration is not available online. In-store registration is available only in Boulder at either the Boulder Running Company, 2775 Pearl Street, or Fleet Feet Sports, 2624 Broadway, across from Boulder Community Hospital.

  • Overall male and female: $100

Post-race refreshments for participants will be served “buffet style” just east of the picnic tables in the grass near the Finish Line. Enjoy a delicious Father’s Day BBQ dinner, including Naked Pizza, brats, hamburgers, cheeseburgers, veggie burgers, salads, sides and a variety of tasty cold refreshments, Avery microbrew, and yummy desserts and treats!

2011 Father's Day 4K and 1-Mile Stand-Up Paddleboard Rez Race Draws Hundreds to Boulder Reservoir

BOULDER, Co. - Hundreds of competitors and spectators gathered Saturday, June 18th, to celebrate Father’s Day at the Boulder Reservoir at inaugural Father’s Day 4K and 1 Mile Stand-Up Paddleboard Rez Race.

The event, sponsored by Pearl Izumi, Olukai and Boulder Running Company, drew some of the top runners and paddlers in the area. In the 4K, Aaron Carrizales edged out David Roche for first place, sailing ahead to win in 15:05, just one second ahead of Roche’s second-place finish in 15:06, with James Johnson coming in third in 15:33. Laurie Walker was the fastest woman, winning in 17:23, followed by Laura Bruess in 18:56, and Betsy Mercer in 21:02. The 4K Father/Son and Father/Daughter category (with cash prizes totaling $1000) was won by Team Aaron and Juan Gonzales with a combined time of 33:14 to win the Father/Son division, and by Team Kyle and Lori Hubbart with a combined time of 34:43 in the Father/Daughter Team division.

The 1 Mile SUP  Rez Race was a tightly contested event as well, as participants battled for the finish on a fast 2-loop course in calm conditions. Jason Freise took the top overall men’s slot in 13:06, followed by Jordan Wassan in 13:14, and Alex Mauer in 13:22. Top female finishers were Lyynn Capen in 14:07, followed by Tammy Harbison in 14:18, and Dana Derichsweiler in 15:05.

Participants were also treated to a Father’s Day Hawaiian BBQ dinner catered by Boulder’s 8 Island Hawaii BBQ and Avery Brewing, plus a sampling of traditional Hawaiian music and dance performance by dancers from Halau Hula O Na Mauna Komohana in Boulder

100% of the proceeds from the Father’s Day 4K and 1 Mile Stand-Up Paddleboard Rez Race go directly to benefit Orphans of AIDS Foundation and the City of Boulder Parks and Recreation EXPAND program.
